More Than a Coincidence

Coincidence? I'm leaning more toward fate.

I'm peopled out after a band tour and not making eye contact with anyone on this plane. Then the woman in the next seat grabs my hand as we take off and whispers that she might get sick.

So I look. And there's my childhood friend. The one I haven't seen in years. The one who inspired the song that put our band on the map. Not that she knows that. Until I tell her. In the airport.

Clementine is moving back to take care of her grandfather. His little ranch is right down the road. When he calls needing help, I volunteer.

More time around my friend is a great thing. That's all this is.

Except my feelings have been clear for a while, but she’s still healing from her breakup. So I show up. I help out. I wait.

When the biggest opportunity of my career arrives, I want her there. But it means flying, and that's the one thing she can't do.

So I leave my heart on that little ranch and chase my dream alone.
