More Than a Good Friend

In high school I made a deal with my best friend. If neither of us were married by 35, we'd marry each other.

We haven't spoken about it since. So when a ring falls out of the piñata at our shared birthday party and Dag drops to one knee in front of everyone we know, I walk away. I've loved him forever, but he's just making good on a deal.

I deserve better than that.

So I download every dating app I can find and vow to meet someone new. But I also end up telling Dag the truth — that I've carried a flame for him for years. Then I immediately tell him I'm over him.
